JOIN THE BRUSSELS
SEXTECH Hackathon

Hackathons in the city are tackling a lot of serious issues, why not something as fundamental to human beings as sex? Our bodies, our minds, our relationships… there’s so much room for improvement!

Entrepreneurship, sex and technology will walk hand in hand to create new businesses, products and talents. Wearables, edibles, shaggables, hardware, streaming… The possibilities are endless and we are going all in.

The EU has allocated part of its Horizon 2020 budget to improve our sex lifes and position Europe as  a leader in this market. Following the allocation of these funds Brussels is starting work to become the European capital of #sextech in combination with its VR work lead by the software division of impulse.brussels, called Software Brussels.

With the support of Minister De Croo, the Region of Brussels and the city of Etterbeek, Betacowork will set up a pod hotel for the length of the hackathon at ICAB, with pod rooms that can be rented by the day, night and hour. It will be located next to our sauna. We’ve also set up 3 stages for performances, one in the main corridor, and two in our event rooms. We have also set up a whirlpool in our relax room. This is bean bag galore weekend too 🙂

YOUR MENTORS

People of all sexual orientations and identities will get together to hack new tech businesses around sex. Entrepreneurship, sex and technology will walk hand in hand to create new businesses, products and talents. Wearables, edibles, shaggables… The possibilities are endless.

Makelovenotporn

In 2009, MakeLoveNotPorn founder and CEO, Cindy Gallop, launched MakeLoveNotPorn.com at TED. The site was made up of a short series of images intended to juxtapose the myths of hardcore porn alongside the way sex happens in the real world. The site received a huge response from people of all backgrounds, ages, sexual orientations, and genders, and this feedback was the inspiration for MakeLoveNotPorn.tv.

Cindy Gallop, Founder MakeLoveNotPorn

Entrepreneur Cindy Gallop is hellbent on bringing “sextech” out of the fringes.

You’re probably thinking: Does the world really need more connected vibrators or smart kegel trainers?

But Gallop defines “sextech” as any technology venture designed to innovate and enhance human sexuality.

The Digital
Love Industry

Soon, virtual reality is going to crash into our lives in a way we never even imagined. Though dating and masturbating have long been commandeered by the web, it’s only been as a kind of middleman. Now we’re nearing the possibility of falling in love with your computer, as meeting your dream partner could be as easy as slipping on Oculus Rift—the most advanced virtual reality headset in the world.

In Digital Love, VICE investigates how love and sex is faring in the digital age, starting with technology’s notorious bedmate, the adult entertainment industry. We make a pilgrimage to LA’s “Porn Valley” to witness firsthand how virtual reality is scarily close to creating fully interactive porn before heading to Europe’s sex capital, Amsterdam, where the Dutch enthusiastically enlist the use of “teledildonics” to enhance their long-distance relationships.

Along the way we pick apart the digital world’s grip on today’s relationships. Apps and the rise of social media have revolutionized dating, while virtual affairs end real-life romances and online role-playing games have gone X-rated. Finally, we takes a look at a very modern taboo and ask: Can man’s relationship with machine ever translate into real-life intimacy?
